A Breath of Fresh Air with Bright Skies – ColourFutures™ Colour of the Year, 2022

If the arrival of 2022 has left you feeling a little lacking in design inspiration, you’ll be delighted to browse some of the impressive new colour palettes composed by Sikkens and their colleagues at AkzoNobel’s ‘Global Aesthetic Center’.
Research conducted by AkzoNobel’s ColourFutures™ team during 2021 identified a yearning for “open air” and “a connection to the great outdoors”.
Following this research, AkzoNobel’s colour specialists worked with an experienced team of international design experts to distinguish a colour that that would appeal to the contemporary zeitgeist.

Their conclusion? A colour shade named ‘Bright Skies’ reflects the current mood and has been designated ‘Colour of the Year’ by the ColourFutures™ unit of AkzoNobel.
As part of the AkzoNobel group of brands, Sikkens has translated this colour into an option for wood coatings, bringing what they believe is “a breath of fresh air to wood product manufacturers”. Plus, Bright Skies has been presented as part of a series of up-to-the-minute palettes. These supporting palettes are designed to provide buckets of inspiration to help you reimagine new and existing spaces with a fresh new appearance for 2022.

“We interpret what’s happening in architectural color, soft-furnishings and fashion to create the overall look and feel of our wood finishes. With rising interest in biophilic design around the world, this year we’ve introduced more colours inspired by natural elements such as rattan, jute and stone.
[….] We want to inspire and empower our customers with creative opportunities for combining colours and trends, like formal designs and finishes ranging from flat to glossy. That’s how we make wood the perfect companion for our modern times.”
